Lost and Found were brought to this shelter in July of 2005. They were found wandering around the neighborhood in Livonia, NY. Their family no longer wanted them so they tossed them out the door, cleaned out the cage, and tossed that outside as well.
The lady that found them assisted this family in disposing of them by telling me she found them, and went looking for their human family believe the pair had just gotten out. I later found out this was not true. The person that surrendered the ferrets was a friend of the owner that no longer wanted the ferrets. The surrounding neighbors pointed out a house on the corner that had ferrets. To further this horror this lady claimed she was told they had not lost any ferrets and these kids did not belong to them, but as this lady was talking with the family, there stood the empty cage in the yard very obviously recently used.

December 18, 2009:
We just got back from the vet and Found is no longer with us. Joe took the day off from work and I had a appointment this morning. When I got back Joe told me he could no longer make it back to bed after going to the bathroom. The vet said that he had a large intestinal tumor. He went very peacefully and nosed me a couple of times to say goodbye. It was one of the hardest things I ever had to do. I think he was happy here even though it was a short time and I hope he felt our love. Thank you for introducing us he changed both of our lives. Talk to you soon. Ginger

December 16, 2009:
He's doing better. He ate last night and ate a whole bunch of lucky charms and is pooping and was playing. Joe's not ready to have him put to sleep. He doesn't seem to be in any pain and is still giving his kisses. I'm not sure what has been wrong with him. He still is sleeping more than normal even for him though. We will keep you informed, I'm back to work so I'm sleeping weird hours. I'm sorry to keep you waiting for updates I know you're just as worried as I am about the old man. At this point though it's hard to know what to do for him bc he is so old and we expect him to pass sooner than later ya know but we don't want him to suffer. At this point that doesn't seem to be the case. I'll keep you posted.

December 15, 2009:
I'm writing you this to let you know that we think Found is on his way out. He hasn't ate anything substantial in three days. Last night we offered him some soup and he turned his nose up at it. He didn't even lick up his ferret tone. He didn't stick his head out of his hammock this morning at me like he always does so I made Joe go in and check on him and he's still here. We were thinking about taking him to the vet but we think the stress of the ride will do him in. Do you think there is anything else we can do or do you think it's time?

November 6, 2009:
Found is doing great too. Fat and happy as always. He had a problem with diarrhea for awhile so we took his lucky charms away and he seems to be doing better. He isn't very happy with that but I tell him that he is an old man and some things aren't good for him. He doesn't believe me but kisses me anyways.

October 25, 2009:
Hey possum Found and Dexter are doing great! I finally borrowed my friends digital camera so maybe I can take some new pictures of them. Dexter had finally decided us humans are a good thing. He likes a pettin now and then as long as the girls don't run by. If they are around he has to get down and chase after them. Found is doing great too. He loves his out time and loves to rearrange whatever the youngins did before he was out. He patiently waits for his turn out. This I think is cuz he knows he gets special mom pettin time and can go with her to the other parts of the house without them. All in all everyone is well, and happy.

October 7, 2009:
Dexter and the girls are still doing great!!! Dexter is slowly learning to play even though he gets tired out more quickly then the girls. We all know the girls can't be stopped. He loves them though and now there are three kids sleeping in one basket. I love looking in at them and see three heads pop out. Found just sits back and watches the action in his lazy man way until its his turn and then he makes sure the children haven't screwed up his world. It is so funny to watch. Dexter isn't as loving as the girls and Found. I wonder if he's just still making sure we are ok. He comes up to us and checks us out but still doesn't play with us. I'm sure that will come in time.
Hope everything is going good and if you need anything let us know. Have a great week!!

September 1, 2009:
Found has been weird but doing better. Remember when we brought him to see you July 12th? After that he wouldn't stay in my arms and he wouldn't give me kisses. He was fine with Joe but I think he was making me pay for being him back. A couple of days ago he finally started to get back to normal and cleaned my whole face. I'm not sure what was the problem but he seems to have forgiven me. It was heartbreaking for awhile. You know how I love my Found man.

July 11, 2009:
Honestly Found is doing great. He's still my loveable lazy old man. He seeks us out for attention. We want to bring him for a visit but it seems every time we come we have 500 other stops to make on the way back, which is the case also this weekend.

May 10, 2009:
Found- The girls got tired out quick last night. They played and played and played. Mom let them play this time without separating them but held her breath the whole time. It was great for Found. He watched them play from his octopus- when they went to bed and he had his time to play- he owned the house. He played in the dig box, in the pillows, in the tunnel. He was like a kid again. He came right up to us and wanted to be picked up. After a round of kisses, he wanted to be let down again and play some more. It was amazing.

May 4, 2009:
Well I figured out why Found wasn't eating that much. I didn't have his bowls arranged right. I moved them around and now he's eating as much as Rascal is. I have no idea what the problem was, I can only think that the one bowl was too close to his water bowl.

April 30, 2009:
I was just wondering how much Found should be eating. As compared to the little girl it is not as much, Approx 1/4 of the bowl compared to her 3/4 of a bowl. Granted his bowl is a little bigger but I just wanted to make sure I was watching his intake. I want to catch a problem before there is one. Of course if you offer him a treat he eats that right away. Again probably just the ramblings of a worried mother.

April 29, 2009:
Everyone is doing great! Found seems to be adjusting just fine giving everyone his special kisses. He spends his time outside the cage exploring the room and sleeping in his octopus. He has definitely claimed that as his special hiding place.

April 26, 2009:
Hey! Everything is going fine. Sorry I haven't checked my e-mail lately. We have been having a great time with Found, and been enjoying the weather. Found is doing good. He seems to be adjusting well. He seems to be tired though which I assume is from the move, heat and old age. He spends his time out of the cage exploring his new surroundings. He loves Rascals octopus and shoves his body in there and his feet hang out, it is so funny. He is eating well and seems to like his new cage. We were up til midnight putting together the new cage on Friday night. We set Found's up with the two levels together, this was a feat because the bottom door was in the way of doing everything. We finally got it set up and put him in there, then watched him try to get from his box to the plastic levels and he couldn't. So we had to start over again. In any case it is set up a little like his cage was set up at the shelter with the addition of the levels.
Again, sorry for not getting the e-mail's, I was taking the weekend off from school work and didn't even think about checking my e-mail. I'm back today though. We will give updates more often. Thanks again for everything!
