Digging

Q - Do ferrets dig?

A - The ferret is a descendant of burrowing animals, so their instinct to dig and tunnel is strong. The best way that you can enrich your ferret(s) life and help with digging is by using a dig box. A large plastic container works best, with a hole cut in the top cover for entry, to keep the insides from coming out. Dig boxes must be filled with ferret safe items; cornstarch peanuts, long or extra long grain rice, or large, dried beans (Large lima beans, pinto beans, kidney beans).
Outside, ferrets enjoy digging in sand (child safe sand).
