March 15, 2024:
Brenda, I just wanted to let you know that I took Ki to the vets this morning, he has lost souch weight and won't eat and coughs a lot so we saw Dr. Jordan she did X-rays and found a huge mass in his chest. She couldn't even see his heart and he only had a very small amount of lung showing and capacity. I made the choice to let him go peacefully over the bridge. Because this progressed so quickly I didn't want him to suffer. I am devastated that he was only a part of my life for 5+ months. But I hope I have him all the love and happiness that I could. I'm sorry I didn't give him a longer life filled with more love but I did what I thought was best for him.

December 27, 2023:
Ki is doing great Jaxxi doesn't try to kill him every time she gets near him and he actually went back after her last night after that there was only one skirmish so maybe they can co exist and hopefully one day actually live together in the room without a fence. Fingers crossed he's a sweet and goofy guy! All 3 I adopted from you are I love them so much!

December 6, 2023:
Ki is doing great, he's a very friendly guy, if only Jaxxi would get along with him lol. We have better moments so maybe one day. I'm doing ok, busy, we're getting ready to close down for renovations at my FT job. I'll find out today if we're replacing all the chairs or not, if we are I'll put a couple aside for you. Still have the smaller fridge and a microwave for you plus some other things but probably won't get everything to you until after the first of the year.

November 2, 2023:
It's going ok, Jaxxi isn't liking him yet, but I'm working on it. He doesn't fight back at all he just runs. Winnie just sniffs him and he gets nervous cuz Jaxxi jumps him, but I've been right in the middle the whole time redirecting and trying to work it out, will just take time.

May 3, 20233:
AM: Kaiju seems to be holding his own, there were 2 decent poops on his pad when I got him up for his evening soup. I'm not sure if he is eating kibble so I put his food in smaller bowl with less food maybe that will help me determine if he is eating kibble.
PM: Kaiju is now eating out of both dishes of kibble, Marshall's in one and Totally Ferret and Purina One in the other. He feels like he's gained more weight, I'll weigh him tomorrow.

May 1, 20233:
Oh what a beautiful sight, Kaiju poopy pad full of poo.

April 25, 2023:
AM: I believe Kaiju has some form of infection, I started him on Moxy this morning. He is good about going potty in the same area, I found a fresh poo and pee when I was putting kids away, he left a lot of tiny poo over night (not eating will do that) and a puddle of green urine about the size of a 50 cent piece. I got him to eat about 1/8 cup of soup this morning.
PM: I was in the ferret room around noon, I looked up to see Kaiju standing at the cage door, he looked like and entirely different ferret. I hope I'm not talking out of turn, but he looks like he is feeling better, he had 5 good looking poos on his pad. I think he may be eating some kibble. I gave him soup and Moxy late this afternoon, he ate a good portion of the soup. When I put him away I piled his food in his dishes so if he is eating the kibble, it will be evident in the morning.

April 26, 2023:
Kaiju ate a full bowl of soup by dropper this morning, he left several poops on his pad overnight, Not big ones but poop. It looks like he may have been eating some of the kibble I left in his cage, a bowl of Marshall's only and a bowl of TF and Purina one. I'm going offer him soup on a saucer next feeding to see if he will eat it that way. Baby steps.

April 25, 2023:
AM: I screwed up! I let Kaiju up first so I could feed him his soup. He's bright and active, I let him roam the rooms while I got the soup ready. The little poop will not let me catch him! Now I can't find him. I believe I have him contained in the ferret room but he's so fast I could have missed him getting into another room. I have no idea where he is hiding. I know better than to let a new kid run until I have him/her taken care of with whatever I need to do for them. I'm going to be stewing until I get my hands on him.
PM: Kaiju ate well today, after I found him in the ferret room I offered him the soup he didn't get when I got him up. I then put him in the library and window end. He's getting better at letting me catch him and pick him up. I will keep him in his cage until I have his soup ready tomorrow morning so I can feed him then let him out.

April 24, 2023:
AM: Little Kaiju did okay last night. He didn't touch the soup I left him. He got up when I walked into the room. I made him soup out of his kibble he wouldn't touch it. I made him some duck soup, I fed him by dropper, he took probably 12 ml willingly. I will offer him duck soup throughout the day. I have him set up in the sick bank. I put the kibble that came with him in one food dish, and Marshall's in the second food dish. When I finished cleaning cages this morning he was settling himself in the hammock he has in the cage. I got a peek at some of his teeth while I was dropper feeding him, they look fine, I didn't push it, it was a quick peek and with fingers. He's so thin.
PM: I offered Kaiju duck soup every couple of hours, he is still taking it by 5 ml dropper but he is eating the entire 1/4 cup of soup. He has had several poos, I'm using reusable pee pads so I can monitor his output. He's getting more comfortable with me. I hope he will start eating the soup out of a bowl in a day or 2.

April 23, 2023:
He's a bit thin but I've already started him on duck soup, the owner said he will not eat kibble. It's a brand we don't use. I put a handful of his kibble through the grinder, then added warm water to a small amount in a bowl, I held him on my lap so he could eat it. He's not eating much at one time. He got here at 11, I offered him his soup mix and our duck soup 4 times. He is eating it off a plastic spoon. I left him a shallow dish of duck soup. He's pretty scared so I haven't done much checking him over. I don't see anything concerning other than low weight. As he gets more comfortable with me I will look in his mouth to see if he has a problem with his teeth.

Initial Contact, April 19, 2023: Hi! I am unfortunately looking to surrender my ferret as I’m unable to financially and physically care for him anymore due to unforeseen circumstances. He is unwell as he has gotten very skinny and lethargic and I haven’t noticed until recently. I bought him uncle Jims duck soup mix for ferrets to feed him and hope that’ll help.

April 19, 2023, Shelter Response: He should see a vet to get medication, he probably has insulinoma. Where are you located?

Owner Response: I am located in the Liverpool/Baldwinsville, NY area

Shelter Response: Has he seen a vet in the last year? If we make room for him can you get him to us?

April 20, 2023, Owner Response: He has seen the vet for a fecal sample but he has not had his rabies and distemper vaccinations yet but I can make an appointment for those soon. And yes I can absolutely get him to you.

Shelter Response: Get him vetted and we will take him. We have one space available please keep us informed or you will lose the 1 available spot.

Owner Response: Yes I will make that appt right now and I will keep you informed.

Shelter Response: Perfect, thank you.

Owner Response: I was luckily able to get an appointment for him tomorrow at noon for both of those vaccines.

Shelter Response: Perfect. let me know when you want to bring him. everything that belongs to him must come with him, the vaccination certificate needs to come with him as well.

Owner Response: I will come Sunday as that’s the best day for me and will be there at 11am if that works? He has just been vaccinated and yes I will bring everything with him and I have his records with proof of vaccination.

Shelter Response: You are planning to bring him this Sunday the 23rd correct? At 11 am.

Owner Response: Yes both rabies and distemper. And yes I’ll come this Sunday, the 23rd at 11am if that works.
