Ferret Disability Items

This cart was designed by Robert Morgavan for Braveheart. Donna, Robert's wife was on the Internet one day during the Christmas season choosing a Ferret from The Giving Tree. Donna came across a ferret that was paralyzed in the back end. After doing a little research on what was available for Ferrets with this problem, Robert decided that they needed something that was extremely light weight, and easy for the ferret to navigate. He felt they needed to be low the ground, secured in something that would not be too stressful for them.
Back in 2003 when Stinky Boy Brave Heart came to this shelter to live he was unable to use his hind legs at all. Our favorite Doc believes he had been dropped in transport to the Petco store by the distributor. At that time I had a friend that worked as the district Mgr. for the New York stores, one of them being the store that got Braveheart. I was contacted by my friend and asked if I could take and help Braveheart. I was more than willing to take that boy on; as a new mission in life.
In the mean time Donna and Robert found out about Braveheart and his lack of mobility, they asked if they could send him a Ferret Flyer to use to get around. The only request by the Morgavan folks was I communicate to them what worked and what didn't, what could be improved upon, what I liked and did not like about how Braveheart was able to get around. I am pleased to say that Stinky Boy Braveheart no longer needs the Ferret Flyer, he gets around just fine now, up to and including negotiating the stairs that can get him up to his mums apartment.
The only remaining disability Braveheart has is he does not have the ability to know he needs to go pot, so when he is full it just comes out of him where ever he is; whenever. Mum needs to express him to keep his bladder empty. Since the Morgavan family and I have worked to improve on Braveheart's life they have become wonderful shelter friends.
Thanks Robert and Donna for helping me love these kids!
The Morgavan’s reside in Central Texas with 8 ferrets of their own and while none of their ferrets have any mobility issues, they feel good about being able to design and produce something for those who are in need of a mobility device for their ferret.Click here to read about
another Ferret who has Used the Ferret Flyer.
Robert will custom make a cart to your size specifications. He will also custom make a full body cart that will cradle the back legs for the ferret who needs more support.
